Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is the largest non-profit association that works within the Erasmus project, specifically it is made up of student (or ex-student) volunteers who are committed to promoting education and European mobility projects and non-EU. Simply put, we are a group of students who have experienced Erasmus and the enormous personal and professional growth that this experience entails. There are many difficulties to be faced in a foreign country and it is precisely there that we volunteers intervene, in collaboration with universities and institutions, we are committed to guiding the so-called "incoming" students with our "students helping students" spirit.
In addition to the help we provide, we at ESN Ancona have the main objective of helping people discover Italian culture, and to do this in the best possible way we organize special trips and events to discover our country.
Key points of ESN Ancona:
Welcoming students from foreign universities: as soon as they arrive, there are many difficulties, as well as bureaucratic aspects: finding accommodation, choosing university courses, finding material, understanding how to obtain the tax code, etc.
Cultural integration: we help young people integrate immediately into the social environment of our city, we create opportunities for them to get to know and make friends with local students.
Discovery and enhancement of the territory: we organize guided tours, trips, events that allow Erasmus students to discover the beauty of our country. In addition to this, we are also committed to promoting and enhancing small businesses/activities, where quality products, the pure culture of our cities and (why not?!) many good souvenirs for their families can often be found.
Collaboration with Universities: we provide support from a university point of view by always staying in contact with the managers of the Erasmus Office, but we also support students who have to leave for destinations on which they have no information.
Curiosities about Ancona
Ancona is the only city in Italy together with Trieste (islands excluded) where the sun rises and sets over the sea: if from the War Memorial it is possible to observe the dawn, on the other side of the city, on the top of Colle Guasco where the Cathedral of San Ciriaco stands, it is possible to admire a breathtaking sunset over the port area.
Ancona is mainly known as a maritime city: a few hundred meters from the city center you can find the Passetto beach, connected to the war memorial by a staircase; but the area that certainly attracts the most tourists from all over Europe (it is not uncommon to meet visitors from Germany, Holland, France, England, Belgium) is that of Portonovo: a bay at the foot of Monte Conero that has little to envy in terms of beauty to more famous beaches such as those of Salento and Sardinia. Bay often and willingly visited by all Erasmus students who, as soon as the weather permits, can't wait to enjoy the last months of their foreign experience on the beach.
